Have you ever seen a dyer's puff mushroom? It's also called a 'dog poop' mushroom because yes, that's what it looks like. But, when you simmer it for a long time, it creates the most beautiful golden dye. In this piece, I've stacked strips of silk that was dyed with the mushroom dye bath in different concentrations, with a Eucalyptus eco-print print on paper.
The back story:
- This silk is from a lot that was damaged by a monsoon in the South Pacific.
- A friend found the dog poop mushroom in her yard. I was very excited.
- Dirty pot eco-printing captures the print of plant materials through heat and pressure in a rust and Eucalyptus dye bath.
Artwork is 7 X 5, sold as presented in 8 X 10 archival mat, ready to frame.
