I'm gathering interest in small group workshops at my home studio in Citrus Heights, California. Please let me know which classes you are interested in, and what days/times are best for you.
Workshops are held outside in a shady area and include a light lunch or dinner. Class sizes are limited, and not suitable for children. Ages 15-17 must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class. All materials are provided except where noted.
Workshop descriptions and prices are below, followed by a form where you can let me know what you're interested in.
Please register your interest so I know what to schedule! Once we have interest, you'll receive an email to confirm your participation and pay for your workshop.

Basic papermaking from recycled scraps
Learn to make paper from ordinary recycling scraps, using a household blender. Add color using tissue paper, and botanicals for added texture and interest. You will learn basics that can be applied to a variety of papermaking projects. The focus of this class is on exercising your creative muscle to create unique art papers rather than perfectly flat paper to write or print on. You'll take home ten sheets of 8X6 paper on cotton couching cloths with instructions to finish drying at home. |
Botanical Printing with Leaves and Flowers
- 4-hour class, $95 including materials
- Limited to 6 participants
Use flowers and leaves to create colorful botanically-printed items. I'll supply the botanicals and pre-mordanted materials.
You'll leave with a 22X22 cotton bandana and a 6X24 lightweight silk scarf designed by you!
Dirty Pot Eco-printing: Silk Scarf
In this class you'll learn the basics of eco-printing in a 'dirty pot' of eucalyptus, vinegar and rust water. You'll make a 15 X 72 inch silk crepe de chine scarf using your choice of Eucalyptus, Rose, Cotinus and Blackberry leaves along with onion skins. These botanicals produce beautiful prints of purple and red-orange on a brown/black background. Because of the lengthy processing time to achieve vibrant colors with this process, you'll return on another day (TBD by the workshop group) when we'll unbundle and rinse our scarves. You'll take home a beautiful and luxurious one-of-a-kind scarf, co-created by nature and you! |
Dirty Pot Eco-printing: Paper (Fall dates)
Eco-printing in a 'dirty pot' dye bath of Eucalyptus, vinegar and rust water produces beautiful, moody prints on watercolor paper - especially with Fall leaves that have fully developed their tannins. I'll provide a list of 'good printers' in advance so you can gather your own materials if you'd like, though I will have enough for everyone. You'll take home six sheets of 6X6 eco-printed watercolor paper to dry and press at home. |
Experimental Botanical Printing
Experimentation is the best way to learn! This is an introductory, hands-on class to get you started with botanical printing. I'll provide pre-mordanted upcycled cotton fabric, and you'll bring foraged leaves. I'll provide guidelines in advance on how to choose your leaves, and a list of those that I know will - and will not - work. We'll also discuss mordanting, color shifting, foraging and techniques for producing color striations as well as clear, crisp prints. You'll leave with your labeled cotton test fabric and a PDF with basic instructions, recipes and links to more resources. |
