2023 Blue Line Arts 30X30
The 30X30 Challenge through Blue Line Arts in Roseville, California invited 20 artists to create 30 pieces - no larger than 6X6 - during a 30-day period, from October 17 through November 16, 2023. For me, it was an opportunity to let go of my typical approach of over-thinking, in favor of a more relaxed creative flow.

I'm inspired by the materials that I gather and those that create, so this experience was perfect for me. It pushed me to try new things, to be bold, and not to be quite so precious with the materials I've saved.

Over the 30 days of the challenge, I ripped, crumpled, cut, stitched, strung, wound, threaded, corded stacked and glued a happy mess of hand made paper, naturally dyed and botanically printed fabric and paper into 30 botanical mixed media collages.
Each also incorporates some element of the gently used guitar strings that so often find their way into my work, whether the string or strings themselves or the brass 'end beads.' On the back of each piece is a QR code leading to a dedicated web page here on my site that explains more about the materials included in the piece.

Upcycling and re-use is often an theme in my work. For these collages, I've incorporated a steel guitar string hanger into the back of each piece along with a foam strip to support the light-weight birch board against the wall.
The hanging elements can easily be removed, and the boards mounted on matboard or foam core backing board for framing. I suggest a final frame size of 12 X 12 or 16 X 16.
