Grass Valley, California
Fiber art wall sculpture
30 X 24
Heat transforms polyester satin, mimicking the topography of deep grooves carved in the desert floor by persistent rains. In ‘Desert Runoff,’ the artist maintains her love of texture but breaks away from traditional fiber arts, using an unexpected choice of polyester in an unexpected way to explore nature's organic flow.
As she contemplates a new body of work, the artist asks the tongue-in cheek question: Is it still fiber arts when you melt the fiber?

Blues with a feeling

Group Exhibition: Pure Imagination, The MACC, Rancho Cordova
3-D Wall Sculpture
18 X 16 X 4
This three-dimensional wall-mounted sculpture juxtaposes the fluidity of upcycled linen fabric and the rigidity of random weave guitar strings. Hand-dyed with Japanese indigo, the fabric drapes and loops around the orbs, adding a soft contrast to the rigid texture of the guitar strings. The contrast between the strings and the blue fabric creates a sense of rhythm and harmony that echoes the visceral feeling of the blues.

2-D hanging fiber and guitar string weaving
20 X 16 X 2
Upcycled guitar strings form the warp for this loose weaving of botanical and rust-printed fabrics.
So many amazing songs have been written about the rain. In this piece, the echoes of those songs beat down through gently used guitar strings that still carry the joy of the music they've made.
Dark clouds of papery Queen Palm Frond fiber top a landscape of eco-printed and rusted fabrics weaving through the downpour.

2-D hanging fiber and upcycled materials sculpture
60 X 24 X 6
Conflicted Thoughts rose as a theme from a line in Love Can Change the World, a song I co-wrote with Greg Newlon and released on our album of the same name in 2011. It’s about noticing our momentary shortcomings and reminding ourselves that positive change comes from within.
The second verse begins "I see the world in black and white, and rarely hear the gray." That internal conflict became the inspiration for Conflicted Thoughts.
All materials used are either upcycled or repurposed.
We stumble, we reach out, we help each other. We're the ones who can change the world – each one of us. And each time we lead with love, that positive change is one step closer.
Partial list of upcycled materials:
Fishing net, metal water bottle, bird netting, paint roller, printable DVD, bass guitar strings, acoustic guitar string random woven sphere. heated Tyvek, garden weed cloth, garden shade cloth, strapping from shipping container, liner of discarded suitcase, thrifted and upcycled satin, linen, denim, cotton and interfacing.
