Workshops at my home studio

I believe creativity goes hand-in-hand with curiosity!

My workshops include basic techniques as well as time for experimentation, because I believe that's the best way to learn. I'll explain what's likely to happen if the technique isn't followed, then I'll encourage you to follow your curiosity, try new things and have fun!

Class sizes are limited, and not suitable for children. Ages 15-17 must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class. All materials are provided except where noted.

  • Papermaking from recycled scraps

Learn to make paper from ordinary recycling scraps using a household blender. Add color using tissue paper, and botanicals for texture.

You will learn basics including both western and eastern papermaking with a mold and deckle, as well as my own quick method. These techniques can be applied to a variety of papermaking projects.

This class does not cover the processing of plant materials for papermaking, but it does include using plant and kitchen waste as inclusions in paper made from recycling.

    Where:

My home studio in Citrus Heights, California. Address will be provided with registration.

    Dates:

Offered on October 4 (full), October 5 and October 25.

    What's included:

    Light brunch, all workshop materials.

Limited to 6 participants; not suitable for children.

    Paperplay Community:

Once you’ve taken this class, you’ll be invited to join our papermaking community on Facebook, and participate in drop-in Paper Play Dates on second and fourth Fridays at my home studio.

  • Leaf prints on silk and paper

In this class you'll learn the basics of eco-printing on silk and paper, using the natural elements of vinegar, rust, moisture, pressure and heat to transfer naturally occurring plant pigments.

You'll print a 14 X 60 inch silk crepe de chine scarf using your choice of Eucalyptus, Rose, Cotinus and Blackberry leaves along with onion skins. These botanicals produce beautiful prints of purple and red-orange on a brown/black background.

You’ll also create ecoprints on watercolor paper using Fall leaves that have fully developed their tannins. I'll provide a list of 'good printers' in advance so you can gather your own materials if you'd like, though I will have enough for everyone.

Because of the lengthy processing time to achieve vibrant colors with this process, you'll return the following day when we'll unbundle our prints and rinse our scarves. You'll take home at least 4 prints on paper and a beautiful luxurious one-of-a-kind scarf, co-created by nature and you!
