Leaf Prints on Paper - Half Day

$75.00

In this half-day workshop you'll learn the basics of eco-printing on paper. The trees are getting ready for winter, but I’ve been saving the ‘good printers’ to work with over the winter.

Working with leaf prints on paper is a simpler process than working with wearables, since we don’t need to be so concerned about repeated washing or extended exposure to light.

We’ll tap into the natural elements of rust, moisture, pressure and heat to transfer naturally occurring plant pigments to pre-treated watercolor paper - and test other types of paper as well. You’ll learn different approaches to bundling paper for the dye pot.

You’ll also learn about mordanting and pre-treating cellulose fiber to prepare it to accept natural pigment from plants.

Where

My home studio in Citrus Heights, Calif. Address will be provided with registration. We’ll work in an inside (garage) work area, with steps involving the dye pot held outdoors.

Dates

Wednesday December 10th from 1 - 4:30 pm

Saturday January 3rd from 9 am to 1 pm (bring a bag lunch)

Class Size

Limited to 6 participants; not suitable for children. Workshop may be canceled with 2 days’ notice and full refund if fewer than 3 people are registered.

Cancelation

The workshop may be canceled and rescheduled in the event of intense rain. Full refund will be offered if the rescheduled date is not convenient for you.

You'll print a 14 X 60 inch silk crepe de chine scarf using Eucalyptus, Rose, Cotinus and Blackberry leaves along with onion skins. These botanicals produce beautiful prints of purple and red-orange on a brown/black background. You’ll also create ecoprints on watercolor paper using Fall leaves that have fully developed their tannins. I'll provide a list of 'good printers' in advance so you can gather your own materials if you'd like, though I will have enough for everyone.

Because of the lengthy processing time to achieve vibrant colors with this process, you'll return the following day when we'll unbundle our prints and rinse our scarves. You'll take home at least 4 prints on paper and a beautiful luxurious one-of-a-kind scarf, co-created by nature and you! If the pickup session doesn’t fit with your schedule, we can coordinate another time, so please don’t let that stop you from registering for this workshop.
